While the “Christmas Truce” of 1914 has achieved legendary status in the history of World War I, there has been little coverage of similar events involving American troops.

This week, many families around the United States will celebrate Christmas. It’s a holiday that for many, is associated with gathering loved ones close, family traditions and shared meals.

On this date in 1945, General George S. Patton, Jr. died in Germany of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

West Virginia native Technician 4th Grade James A. Stewart, was the youngest of a family of eight. An acclaimed baseball player, he volunteered for the Army while working for a paper mill.

Today, the Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), William M. Matz, officially accepted the Battle of the Bulge Monument as ABMC's 31st federal monument.
