Colonel Zook was a member of the 5th Air Commando Squadron. On October 4, 1967, he was the pilot of a Super Courier (U10B) on a mission 5 miles west of Ben Cat, Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on June 18, 1992 and identified on May 23, 2008. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
