Chief Warrant Officer Second Class Zich was a member of Headquarters, 37th Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade. On April 3, 1972, he was the co-pilot of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) on a resupply mission to signal units around Quang Tri City, South Vietnam that was shot down. His remains were not recovered. 

Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Chief Warrant Officer Second Class Larry Zich were accounted for in 2022. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
