Captain Wilson was a member of Detachment C, Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 224, Marine Attack Group 14, 1st Marine Air Wing. On June 11, 1972, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a combat mission over Nam Ha Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed in a lake on the north edge of the city of Nam Dinh. His remains were recovered on July 13, 1988 and identified on October 14, 1988. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
