Major Wilson was a member of the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On November 22, 1966, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by a surface to air Missile and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 10, 1986 and identified on October 22, 1986. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
