First Sergeant Williams was the First Sergeant of Company D, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade at Chu Lai, South Vietnam. On January 9, 1968, he was attacking the enemy positions in "Happy Valley", Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam when he was wounded, captured then died in captivity. His remains were recovered on August 14, 1985 and identified on November 4, 1985. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
