Sergeant Major White was a member of Command and Control North, 5th Special Forces Group. On January 29, 1968, he was the leader of a reconnaissance team that was inserted into a target area in Ratanokiri Province, Cambodia. The team came under enemy fire and was being extracted with McGuire rigs hung from a helicopter. Sergeant Major White lost his grip and fell into the jungle. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
