Chief Warrant Officer, Third Class Watson was a member of Troop A, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On March 13, 1968, he was a crew member of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) flying from Phu Bai to Camp Evans, South Vietnam. About 4 miles from Camp Evans the aircraft was hit by enemy fire and forced to land. All ten persons left the aircraft, but Chief Warrant Officer, Third Class Watson was later listed as missing. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
