Colonel Walsh was a member of the 602nd Special Operations Squadron, Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. On February 15, 1969, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Attack Aircraft (A1-J) on a search and rescue mission near Ban Bac, Saravane Province, Laos. During the search, his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
