Major Wallace was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 121, Marine Air Group 15, 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade. On August 28, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4E) flying over Dong Na Area of North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
