Private Wallace was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On January 25, 1967, he was aboard the Naval transport USS GENERAL JOHN POPE (AP-110) enroute to Vietnam. He fell overboard and drowned. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
