Notes

In November 1943, Private First Class Vosmer was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division which encountered stiff Japanese resistance when landing on the island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll of the Gilbert Islands. During several days of intense fight during the attempt to secure the island, approximately 1,000 Marines and Sailors were killed and more than 2,000 wounded. In June 2015, a nongovernmental organization notified DPAA that they had discovered a burial site on Betio Island and recovered the remains of what they believed were 35 U.S. Marines who fought during the battle. Private First Class Vosmer's remains were among those in the group and accounted for by DPAA in 2016.

Private Vosmer's name is permanently inscribed at the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hi.
