Sergeant First Class Vazquez-Cruz was a Light Weapons Infantryman in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy on Hill 398 in South Korea on March 31, 1951 and died of those wounds later that day.
