Captain Trent was a member of the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On May 13, 1970, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission over Rotanokiri Province, Cambodia near the tri-border region of Laos, Cambodia and South Vietnam, where the aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
