Captain Stroven was a member of the 11th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Udorn Airfield, Thailand. On October 28, 1968, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a bombing mission of an ammunition dump near Hanoi, North Vietnam. About 15 miles west of Dong Hoi, radio contact was lost with the aircraft. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
