Master Sergeant Stevenson was an engineer on a C97A transport from the 1700th Air Transport Group, Continental Division, Military Air Transport Service at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas. His aircraft was making practice landings at Kelly Air Force base, Texas, when its left flap froze in the downward position causing the plane to crash into two buildings killing all on board.
