Seaman Spinelli was a member of Attack Squadron 196, Carrier Air Wing 14 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CONSTELLATION (CVA-64). On September 30, 1968, he was the bombardier/navigator of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a night armed reconnaissance near Vinh, North Vietnam. While enroute to the target his aircraft was shot down by surface to air missiles. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
