Second Lieutenant Skibbe was a member of Company C, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division. On March 2, 1970, he was killed while fighting the enemy near An Hoa, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
