Notes
Major Shanks was a member of the 12th Air Commando Squadron. On May 24, 1968, he was the co-pilot of a Fairchild Provider Cargo Aircraft (UC-123B) over the South China Sea offshore South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
