Private First Class Shaffer was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously injured in North Korea on November 20, 1951 and returned to duty on November 24, 1951. He was killed when his bunker collapsed on him on April 2, 1952.
