Sergeant Romine was a member of 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On May 16, 1968, he was on a combat mission a few miles southeast of Kontum, Kontum Province, South Vietnam when he was killed by an incoming grenade. His remains were recovered on May 31, 1968 and identified on November 28, 1977. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
