Lieutenant Colonel Rockett was a member of the 390th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam. On June 2, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a mission near Ron, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were recovered on July 3, 1989 and identified on August 28, 2006. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
