Lieutenant Commander Roberts was a member of Attack Squadron 196, Carrier Air Wing 19 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31). On December 2, 1965, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) over North Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on October 4, 1994 and identified on October 10, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
