Private First Class Rivers was assigned to Company C, 76th Engineer Construction Battalion, U.S. Army. He was killed 200 yards northeast of Advance Camp but south of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) by North Koreans on August 28, 1967 as his company was having its evening meal.
