Sergeant First Class Ridings was a highly decorated veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 3, 1950 and returned to duty on September 7, 1950. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 12, 1950 and died of those wounds on September 14, 1950.
