Captain Rickman was a member of SU-1, 1st Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company. On December 25, 1972, he was flying in a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1) over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down five miles east of Dong Ha. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
