Warrant Officer Porter was a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 120th Engineer Combat Battalion, 45th Infantry Division. He suffered acute coronary insufficiency and was evacuated to the 542nd General Dispensary, 163rd Medical Battalion near Yong Dung-Po, South Korea where he died on February 22, 1953.
