Originally buried in in Plot E, Row 15, Gave 39 at Normandy American Cemetery, Ludwig Pieper was relocated to Plot E, Row 25, Grave 42 so that he will be buried next to his twin brother Julius Pieper.
The remains of Julius Pieper were recovered several years after the war. At the time, he couldn’t be identified and his remains were buried as an “Unknown” in Ardennes American Cemetery. In 2016, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) exhumed the unknowns remains believed to be Julius and in 2017, identification was made. At the family’s request, Julius will be buried next to his brother in Normandy American Cemetery on June 19, 2018.
