Major Pearson was a member of the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On February 22, 1969, he was flying in a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on an operational mission over the Plain of Jars, Xiangkhoang Province, Laos. When his aircraft was 10 miles southeast of Ban Na Mai, it was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on January 13, 1992 and identified on July 2, 1993. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
