Warrant Officer, First Class Pearce was a member of Company C, 158th Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. On May 17, 1971, he was the pilot of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) on an assault/extraction mission about 10 miles northeast of Khe Sanh, Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. Upon approaching the target, his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed killing him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
