Captain Parra was a member of the Marine Composite Squadron 1, Marine Air Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 17, 1968, he was flying in a Skyknight Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (EF10-B) over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when contact with the aircraft was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
