Captain Ott was a member of the Marine All Weather Fighter Squadron 235, Marine Attack Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. On October 2, 1967, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8E) flying about ten miles from Danang, South Vietnam, when it crashed into a mountain. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
