Major Oldham was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On June 11, 1967, he was the co-pilot flying in a Boeing Sea Knight Cargo Helicopter (CH-46A) inserting a seven man team about eleven miles northwest of Dong Ha, South Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
