During a night mission on September 14, 1951, the aircraft expended its bombs on an enemy rail system near Yangdok, Korea. Then the pilot directed friendly aircraft fire by using the aircraft's searchlight to illuminate the targets, continuing until the aircraft was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire. First Lieutenant Mulkins was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on February 28, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
