Lieutenant Colonel Morrill was a member of the 67th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On August 21, 1967, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a strike on the Duc Noi rail yard 4 miles north of Hanoi, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by a surface to air missile and crashed. His remains were recovered on June 3, 1983 and identified on June 27, 1983. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
