Notes

Private First Class Mitchell was a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while attacking Hill 209, overlooking the Naktong River south of Taegu, South Korea on September 6, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. In late 2014, Mitchell's family requested the disinterment of Unknown X-5698 Tanggok, based on a tentative name association. Unknown X-5698 was disinterred from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu and accessioned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) laboratory on May 16, 2016. Laboratory analysis and circumstantial evidence were used in the identification of his remains. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
