Major Mirrer was a member of the 4th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang, South Vietnam. On January 17, 1971, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4E) on a mission in Laos, but his aircraft received damage from hostile fire and he headed for the South China Sea about 20 miles south of Hue, South Vietnam, where he ejected but could not be found. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
