For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Miller was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

First Lieutenant Miller was the pilot of a B-26 Invader bomber with the 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group. On February 8, 1951, as his aircraft was inbound to Pyongyang, contact was lost. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on February 28, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
