Staff Sergeant Mein was a member of Command and Control, North, 5th Special Forces Group. On November 30, 1968, he was a passenger in a Vietnamese Air Force Sikorsky Choctaw Cargo Helicopter (CH34) for insertion into Laos. The aircraft was struck by a 37mm anti-aircraft fire crashed and exploded. His remains were recovered on March 26, 1989 and identified on February 1, 1990. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
