Lieutenant Junior Grade McMican, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of the Early Warning Squadron 13 "Zappers", Carrier Air Wing 62 aboard the USS MIDWAY (CVB-41). On June 2, 1965, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (EA-1F) on a search and rescue mission over North Vietnam. While circling over a downed pilot in the South China Sea, his aircraft was hit by enemy fire, crashed and burned on land. His remains were recovered on July 13, 1988 and identified on November 14, 1988. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
