Chief Warrant Officer, Second Class McLeod was a member of the Troop C, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On February 12, 1971, he was the pilot of a Bell Cobra Attack Helicopter (AH-1G) on an armed reconnaissance mission west of Quang Tri, South Vietnam, when his aircraft developed engine trouble. Before he could land the aircraft exploded and crashed. His remains were recovered on July 28, 1997 and identified on August 6, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
