Major Massucci was a member of the 43rd Tactical Fighter Squadron. On October 1, 1965, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a road reconnaissance about 79 miles west-northwest of Hanoi, 15 miles from the border of China, near Ban Puoi Airfield. His aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
