Sergeant First Class Mannino was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 37th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was accidentally injured and died of those injuries on April 17, 1951 aboard the Danish hospital ship JUTLANDIA.
