Master Sergeant Lindewald was a member of Detachment A-101, Company C, 5th Special Forces Group. On February 7, 1968, he was defending Lang Vei, South Vietnam against a combined North Vietnamese Army infantry-tank assault, which overran Lang Vei. His remains were recovered on January 15, 2004 and identified on September 8, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
