Specialist, Fifth Class Lautzenheiser was a member of 68th Aviation Company, 52nd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On October 26, 1971, he was the flight engineer of a Boeing Chinook Cargo Handling Helicopter (CH-47B) flying administrative missions. When the aircraft was near Nha Trang, South Vietnam radio contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
