Staff Sergeant Latimer was a rifleman with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On March 30, 1969, Company A attacked the enemy in Kontum Province, South Vietnam but was forced to withdraw. He was severely wounded and became Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
