Fireman (E3) Kunz was crew member of the destroyer-minesweeper USS HOBSON (DMS-26). While on night maneuvers in the mid-Atlantic on April 26, 1952, the USS HOBSON collided with the aircraft carrier, USS WASP. The HOBSON sank with Fireman Kunz and 175 others listed as missing.
