Lieutenant Knight, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Carrier Early Warning Squadron 116, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43). On April 9, 1970, he was the co-pilot of a Grumman Hawkeye Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (E-2A) on a routine mission over North Vietnam. Immediately after launch a fire started aboard the aircraft and the plane tried to return to the carrier. It crashed about away. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
