Major Klenda was a member of the 67th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On September 17, 1965, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. Major Klenda's remains have been recovered and and identified by use of modern day forensic science. Major Klenda's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
