Notes
Hospital Corpsman Kilmer was attached to Company H, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On August 13, 1952, his company was defending a position at "Bunker Hill" four miles northwest of Chung-dong, South Korea, when it came under assault by heavily armed enemy forces. He repeatedly braved intense mortar, artillery and sniper fire to tend his wounded comrades and see to their evacuation. Painfully wounded by mortar fire, he administered aid to a wounded comrade and fell upon him to protect him from nearby artillery burst that killed him.
